Harper Collins On-line Slush Pile
My novel, Pastor's Ex-Wife, is posted at http://www.authonomy.com/ViewBook.aspx?bookid=3727. My goal is to have 1000 people create free authonomy profiles and then BACK the book:Pastor's Ex-Wife. This is the Harper Collins on-line slush pile, a way for this publisher to find new manuscripts and also have them pre-screened by the online community. This may herald a new approach to publishing in general.

64% of the museums that participated in the Listening Post Project conducted by Lester Salamon et al at John Hopkins University Center for Civil Society Studies have "shovel-ready infrastructure projects" which cannot go forward as planned because of the economic down-turn. The study surveyed more than 1800 nonprofit organizations: museums, community and economic development agencies, elderly housing agencies, theaters, children and family service agencies, clinics, educational organizations, and orchestras. Almost half of these nonprofit projects are planned to occur in urban areas. The study concludes that there is significant potential for jobs right now if some of the economic stimulus would be directed towards the nonprofit sector to pay for new construction and renovations that are already planned.

In its recent on-air fundraiser, this NPR station run out of the University of Missouri-Saint Louis raised $231,000 in pledges. They pitched Valentine's chocolates and other romantic incentives in exchange for pledges in their campaign called "For the Love of KWMU". The Valentine's Day pledge drive is an annual event but this year, in spite of the recession, the station reduced the number of days that they interrupted programming for fund-raising and still netted 13% more than they did last year.

National Society of the Colonial Dames in America: Search results
The National Society of the Colonial Dames in America in the State of Missouri owns, operates and makes available to the public the Bolduc House Museum in Ste. Genevieve, Missouri. The executive director is Lorraine Stange. This museum is a fully restored French Colonial home from the late eighteenth century. It was the recipient of the 2005 President's Award for Historic Preservation and is a National Historic Landmark as well. For people who rue Gov. Blagojevich's recent decision to close the French Colonial historic sites on the Illinois side of the Mississippi River, Ste. Genevieve, Missouri, still offers an authentic opportunity to experience a bit of French Colonial America. The Bolduc House Museum is open from April through October every year. It is located just 60 miles south of St. Louis on Interstate 55.

Implu Nonprofit Custom Searches
Implu recently added to its customized search features in the nonprofit category. This is going to be a real help for everyone who is in the grant-seeking business. While the information is not as detailed as you get on a data base like the Foundation Center Online, for instance, the contact information is enough to create a lead list from. Then you can move forward. I'd love to see a list of the nonprofit board members- now you can get it by searching the IRS-990 forms on Guidestar or by going to the organization's website. I'd also love to see websites for these organizations as part of the contact information on Implu in general.
